Trade holders and travelers from the United States may be amazed by the concept of the Value Added Tax or VAT. But if you do business with companies in approximately any other urbanized country of the world or travel to those countries, you’ll see this country-level tax added to your receipts for most goods and services. Typically, the only time leisure travelers have to worry about VAT numbers is when reclaiming VAT on their way out of a country.
Calcular el IVA (impuesto al valor agregado)
VAT is in the core, a country-level sales tax that applies to most goods and services. The tax can be applied at the standard rate, which to use the European Union as a model, typically ranges from 8 to 27 percent or at a zero rate. The zero rates indicated that there is no VAT charged on the goods or services themselves, so from the consumer’s point of view, it’s a tax rate of zero percent. But the zero rates entitle the company producing those goods and services to, in essence, still claim tax subtraction on expenses related to their production. The USA has ranged from 7 to 7.5.
A VAT number is a government-issued identifier that only applies to companies that assess or repossess VAT. So if you're traveling for tourism or other leisure purposes or if you run a corporation that operates underneath the local government entrance for VAT, you don’t need a VAT number yourself. But you might need this identifier when it comes time to retrieve the VAT you paid during your stopover.
Because VAT is imposed on most consuming products you can expect to pay this tax while traveling abroad. But in some cases, you can repossess VAT, either at the point of sale or on your last stop on the way out of the country. Don’t bother trying to reclaim VAT on hotels or meals, you can’t but you can usually get back VAT paid on considerable purchases of gifts or valuable items.

Vat is generally imposed by governments around the world as one of their main sources of revenue and accounts for approximately 20 percent of worldwide tax revenue.
Value-added tax is collected in United States (US) in the name of Sales Tax. The sales tax rate differs from the different states in the United States.
To calculate VAT you have to know below formula
Add Tax Amount = (Original Cost * VAT%) / 100 Net Price = Original Cost + Tax Amount
Remove Tax Amount = Original cost – (Original cost */ (100 / (100 + VAT%)))
Net Price = Original Cost – Tax Amount
To give an end to this topic, I must say that whenever you travel from one country to another and you are purchasing gifts or valuable items, don’t forget to reclaim your VAT because some people don’t even bother to know that there is some TAX that you can regain back.
